Our next stop on our wine tasting adventure began at Del Dotto Vineyards, Napa Valley. My good friend John told me that I had to check it out. Del Dotto keeps their wine in barrels lining a system of caves in a hill that has been around since the late 1800’s. It did not dissapoint!
Earlier in the week I had made reservations for my wife and I to take the barrel tasting tour. This was a tour in which samples of wine were given to you straight from the barrel using a wine thief tool (yes, a wine thief) as you made your way through the caves.
This tour gives a lot of great information about the barrels themselves; how there made, the types of wood and the different flavors that the wood can impart on the wines stored in them. The caves themselves are very impressive! Very cool temperatures make it the ideal environment for storing wine.
Our guide Marc was awesome! Great sence of humor and he encouraged everyone in our group of six to talk about the wines we enjoy and our taste preferences. Everyone in our group was able to find a few wines they really liked. Also, small amount of minerals like chromium, zinc, molybdenum, unica-web.com buy cheap levitra iodine, selenium and copper. We sampled one Rose, about six reds, and a very tasty Port. Many of the Reds had a very smooth finish. Before we took the tour I no idea that the same wines that we were tasting would be the same wines that we could preorder for future delivery once bottled. Our three favorites in no particular order are the 2013 Russian River Zinfandel, the 2013 Lot M Cabernet Sauvignon aged in French Oak, and last but definitely not least was the bold 2013 St. Helena Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon aged 36 months in American Oak BLOCK 2. We would definitely recommend taking the barrel tasting tour for a unique and fun wine tasting experience! We actually ordered those above wines. Can’t wait till late Summer and then early Fall for our wines to be bottled and delivered to our home.
